IF (voiced by Kana Ueda)

A member of the Planeptune Intelligence Bureau. She is very good friends with Neptune and Compa, whom she’s known for a long time. For someone with so little common sense she’s quite the straight man. She is always worried about jokers Neptune and Compa.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” IF is an explorer. Together with Compa, she gathers items and synthesizes them, and earns money and experience points by running a shop. IF is in charge of convenience items.

 

Compa (voiced by Kana Sakai)

A naturally clumsy nurse who works at the Planeptune hospital. She is very good friends with IF and Neptune. She is the first one to start calling Neptune “Nep-Nep,” and often goes to her place to cook meals.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” Compa is a doctor. Together with IF, she gathers items and synthesizes them, and earns money and experience points by running a shop. Compa is in charge of recovery items.

 

Tamsoft (voiced by Ami Koshimizu)

A big-chested girl who loves fun things like festivals. She has a cheerful and refreshing personality, but can also be lively. She obtains area access to “Four Goddesses Online” through a festival lottery and joins in on the beta test.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” Tamsoft is a blacksmith. She uses her weapon crafting skills to upgrade weapons for other adventurers. She works quickly and has a good reputation.

 

Uzume Tennouboshi (voiced by Mariko Honda)

A girl who is strong-minded and speaks bluntly, but at her core is kind and has a strong sense of duty and humanity. She admires and pursues coolness more than others, but goes weak when others praise her as cool. She tends to day-dream, but can also be intense.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” Uzume is a fighter. She fights without weapons, as those who fight using only their body look cool. She advances through the game on her own in order to brush up her skills.

 

Plutia (voiced by Kana Hanazawa)

A hard-working, natural airhead whose carefree thoughts you couldn’t read. Her nickname is Plutie. Her hobbies include making stuffed animals and afternoon naps. She rarely gets angry, but is dreadful when she does.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” Plutia is a tailor. She changes raw materials into accessories and sells them to earn money and experience points. She runs the accessory shop together with Peashy.

 

Peashy (voiced by Aoi Yuuki)

A cheerful girl who is always full of energy. She lives with Plutia. She is simple-minded and behaves like a spoiled child, innocently kicking around her surroundings, and can sometimes be shy. The “Pea Punch” that she lets out with playful intention seems to have power far beyond imagination.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” Peashy chooses to be a tailor like Plutia. She acts as the show girl who pulls in customers and makes sales.

 

Arfoire (voiced by Chiaki Takahashi)

A villain who often appears in this series. But now that she made her way into “Four Goddesses Online,” it seems she is too preoccupied to think about doing evil. She has some sort of connection to Neptune and is very hostile towards her.

In the game, she is a gardener. She has no interest in the story and is dedicated only to cultivating her eggplants. Looking at her passion and skill for cultivating eggplants alone, there is seemingly no one who can match her…

She frowns upon getting to close to others, but hangs out with Warechu even though he calls her “auntie,” so they might actually get along.

 

Warechu (voiced by Niko)

He was born and raised in the back alleys, and is acquainted with mostly bad guys. His injuries were once treated by Compa, so he keeps the thought of her close to his heart.

In “Four Goddesses Online,” Warechu is an adventurer. He somehow manages to obtain a ticket in order to freely play the online game, but since he hates honest effort, does not try to level up. Instead he sells recovery items at dungeon entrances in order to earn a small amount of income.

In reality, he is a mouse, but since there unfortunately isn’t a “mouse” race in “Four Goddesses Online,” his avatar is the same race of other players, a human.

■ An Introduction to Facilities

In Wishuel, the town that acts as your base, there are shops essential for your adventure, such as to obtain weapons and items. In town, players and inhabitants (NPCs) will mutter information, and both main events and sub events will occur.

 

Cathedral

The statue of the four goddesses is enshrined in the cathedral, which is the symbol of Wishuel. “Praying” here will bestow you with effects beneficial to your adventure. Be sure to offer your prayers to the goddesses before going into a dungeon.

The list of commands available at the cathedral include:

• Pray: Offer your prayers to the goddesses.
• Gallery: Browse through event CG.
• Save: Save your game progress.

There are two types of prayers—free and paid:

• Free Prayer: Acquire a random prayer effect.
• Paid Prayer: Pay bells (money) to acquire a specific prayer effect

When displaying the menu, your current prayer effect can be seen in the lower right window.

 

Guild

Depending on your “Guild Rank,” you can take on various quests. You can level up your Guild Rank by clearing specific quests.

Your current Guild Rank can be checked in the lower right menu. (In dungeons, the town, and on the world map, you can check your Guild Rank in the lower right window after displaying the menu.)

Quests are separated into five types, each with a different objective. By achieving that objective and reporting back to the guild, you can receive a reward.

The five types of quests include:

• Small Fry Subjugation Quests: Defeat a specific number of small fry monsters.
• Formidable Foe Subjugation Quests: Defeat a boss monster.
• Delivery Quests: Gather up a specific number of items.
• Area Arrival Quests: Move until you get to a specific area.
• Certified Quests: Clear these quests to level up your Guild Rank.

Certified Quests are important quests necessary to level up your Guild Rank. Certified Quests will appear based on your story progression and the quests you’ve cleared.

 

Pierre & Co.

Deals in basic items such as equipment and consumables, which you can purchase and sell. Be sure to stock up on recovery items to proceed on your adventure with peace of mind.

 

Gem Shop

“Gems” are jewel-like items with special effects. You can equip up to three gems at a time. By equipping gems, you can obtain various effects such as “Stat Boost” and “Experience Points Boost.”

 

Practice Grounds

Practice controls with “Actions Practice,” or browse tutorial documents with “Browse Documents.”

With Actions Practice, you can reaffirm the controls:

• Basic Actions Practice: Reaffirm the basic actions, such as the standard attack and lock-on.
• Guard Practice: Reaffirm the controls of Guard and Just Guard.
• Skill Practice: Reaffirm how to activate skills.
• Mock Battle: Review the basic controls. Press the Options button to end the battle.

■ Characters

 

Demon Lord Jester (voiced by Shouta Ebina)

In the story of “Four Goddesses Online,” Jester is the maddest and strongest boss character.

His fighting strength surpasses that of even a goddess, and he specializes in black magic—particularly in incantations and forbidden magic. Long ago, he tried to conquer Arsgard by leading his army to attack, but was sealed by the goddesses, who unleashed their hidden power.

However, his surviving subordinate monsters kept active behind the scenes for 1,000 years to undo Jester’s seal. And now, the time of his resurrection is near…

 

Dark Knight (voiced by Rikiya Koyama)

A boss character that appears in “Four Goddesses Online,” and one of the leaders of the Demon King’s army known as the “The Unrivaled.” If you look only at his battle techniques, he is a powerful warrior who can even rival the Demon King Jester.

 

Minotaur (voiced by Miou Tanaka)

A boss character that appears in “Four Goddesses Online,” and one of the leaders of the Demon King’s army known as the “The Unrivaled.” He possess such overwhelming power that it is said the swing of his axe breaks the earth.

 

Mysterious Individual (voiced by ???)

No information is known about this person. But he seems to have area access rights…

 

■ Town Facilities

 

Troubadour

If you talk to the Troubadour, you can listen to the background music you hear while playing the game. And not only can you listen to the music here, you can also change the background music of the town.

 

Fancy Shop

Plutia and Peashy’s shop. It’s filled with fancy items to customize the appearance of your characters.

 

Chaos Factory

The shop run by IF and Compa. While all of their products are chaotic, they deal with a focus on high quality items.

 

Blacksmith

The shop run by the blacksmith Tamsoft. By giving her the materials and money necessary for upgrades, you can upgrade your weapons and armor.

You can obtain materials from “material obtaining points,” “treasure boxes,” and defeated enemies during stages. By upgrading, your weapon’s or armor’s stats will increase. Depending on the type of equipment, the maximum amount of times you can upgrade differs.

 

Bulletin Board

Here you can create and look up rooms for co-op play. You can take on multiplayer-exclusive quests with up to four members, and the types of quests you will be able to choose will increase as your “Guild Rank” rises.

In “Room Creation,” you can create a room and input necessary data, such as the number of people joining and the quest you’re taking on.

Choose a quest to take on that matches your Guild Rank.

Prepare everything…

And then start playing! Use everyone’s power to take on strong enemies!

If you want to join another player’s party, you can select “Room Search” to look up a room under your own conditions (amount of players, quest, room code). Room codes can be given to friends to have them join your room.

Communicate with other players by sending messages through the chat menu. Through the “Standard Chat” sub-menu, you can send fixed text messages, and through the “EX Chat” sub-menu, you can send messages with voiced lines of the character you’re controlling. You can also freely input and send your own text.

Set an accessory’s attachment area. Accessories can be attached to various places, including the head and upper arm.

—Accessory Options

Attach movements to the accessories.

—Restore Defaults

Restore the accessory settings to its original state.

A few notable tidbits:

- The approval for the use of UE4 was done in January 2016;
- The game has taken a "create from scratch" approach due to the different engine and setting;
- They did consider using an internal engine, then went for UE4, also thanks to Epic's Japan division (which is also handling part of the promotion);
- Tamsoft will probably develop more PS4 games for CH;
- The idea for the game came after the releasing Blanc's game;
- The original idea was doing a full scale fantasy game but they realized the characters didnt' really work well in this setting;
- The use of 2d, VN-style parts, will remain because that's a staple of the series, even if they added more small in-engine cutscenes;
- The main story takes about 30 hours;
- There are also a lot of sub events, some of which are locked behind certain prerequisites;
- There are 13 types of dungeons, including one designed by Epic and called "Unreal World";
- Since the game has been completed, they will "starting from scratch" for another new game [actually they are working on something already, but it's unclear what it is].
