May 28, 2009 - Earlier this year, Namco Bandai shipped the acclaimed adventure game Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon in Japan and American players eagerly awaited news of a local release, which sadly never came. When contacted, Namco Bandai representatives explained that the company had no plans to publish the title, set to the backdrop of an atmospheric post-apocalyptic world, in the U.S.
Thankfully, though, Xseed Games does. IGN is able to exclusively reveal to its readers today that Xseed has secured the North American publishing rights to Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. The tri-Crescendo-developed project will ship stateside for Wii this winter, according to the company.
"We are ecstatic to be able to finally confirm Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon for gamers in North America," said Jun Iwasaki, president of Xseed Games. "We have received countless requests from eager gamers pleading with us to publish this title, and it gives us great joy to be able to give the public what they want while being able to work on such a great game."
Fragile follows the adventures of a young boy named Seto who may or may not be the last human being alive. As the lonely character searches the foggy, light-abandoned world for survivors, armed with a flashlight, he stumbles across a mysterious girl named Ren and becomes infatuated with her. Unfortunately, the two become separated and Seto embarks on a quest to find Ren again. Along the way, the hero must fight off ghosts and demons that haunt the landscapes, explore dark and seemingly empty ruins, and put together the pieces of a puzzle that will ultimately reveal the downfall of mankind. The title has received high praise for its emotional storyline and stunning graphics and has remained on IGN's most wanted lists since we first played the Japanese import.
We caught up with Xseed's localization manager Kenji Hosoi to learn more about the care being taken to bring the much-hyped game stateside intact.
IGN: First of all,? great job picking this game up. You're set to bring it out "winter 2009." That's pretty vague. Can we expect it for the holiday?
Kenji Hosoi: Thank you, we're very excited to be working on this title.?We'll try our best to bring it in time?for the holidays, but since the game needs to have full English voice-recording done, a pre-holiday release will be extremely tight. We'll keep you guys updated.
IGN: Fragile boasts a great story complemented by top Japanese voice work. How are you handling the localization of both?
Kenji: With extreme care... Since the original game is set in Japan, we're keeping it that way for the?North American?version as well. Regarding voice-overs, the Japanese voice actors are very good, as usual, so we'll have our work cut out for us to try to match their quality. ?
IGN: Will you keep the Japanese dub as an alternative for those who want it? ?
Kenji: We've already asked the development team to add a voice option where the player can choose from English or?Japanese audio, and the initial feedback has been promising. Nothing is certain yet, but I'm sure they will do everything possible to?add that option in so keep your fingers crossed.
IGN: What about English voice work? What're your ambitions there? ?
Kenji: We're all looking forward to doing the recording for the English voices. Still trying to finish the text translations so casting hasn't started yet, but hopefully we can live up to the Japanese voices.?To the hardcore gamers out there that think "if it's not Japanese it's crap", please check out the English voices too because we do work really hard?on the English?voice-over recordings and it'll be a shame if nobody uses the English audio option (assuming we're lucky enough to keep the original Japanese, of course).
IGN: Finally, content wise, are any changes planned?
Kenji: Some of the graphics will of course be changed to English, but we're really not taking anything out or thinking about any major changes at this point. We're trying to get some additional content as the development team seems to be really?enthusiastic about their?game?getting released?in North America,?but too early to tell if scheduling and technical issues may prevent?it or not at this point.
Voglio anche i Tales of 2D allora

Fragile breaks European cover
Wii-exclusive postapocalyptic RPG developed by Eternal Sonata team tri-Crescendo coming to Europe and Australia early 2010.
Since its launch, the Wii has not been the best of platforms for lovers of role-playing games, with the highest rated titles on GameSpot for the genre to hit the platform being ports of the N64 classic Paper Mario and Zelda's Super Nintendo outing A Link to the Past, thanks to the system's Virtual Console download service.
The critically acclaimed real-time strategy role-playing game hybrid Little King's Story served to satisfy some of those clamouring for more high-quality original RPG content on Nintendo's megaselling platform when it was released earlier this year. It seems LKS was the exception to the rule, with few high-profile RPGs pencilled in to fill the RPG gap within Europe this year, save Japanese phenomenon Monster Hunter G. However, European Japanese RPG fans have something to smile about today, as Rising Star Games, European publishers of the adventures of the aforementioned diminutive royal, has confirmed that it is bringing Fragile (subtitled Farewell Ruins of the Moon in the US and Japan) to the Wii in Europe and Australia this spring, in the Northern Hemisphere.
The postapocalyptic RPG has been developed by tri-Crescendo, the team behind 2008's critically acclaimed PS3 and Xbox 360 title Eternal Sonata, and hit the number two spot in the Japanese software chart when it was published by Namco Bandai in January. The game lacked an overseas publisher until Xseed Games picked up the US rights in the spring and confirmed it was to publish the title there this winter.
The game follows Seto, a boy living in the ruins of Tokyo who believes he is the last surviving person on the planet. After finding a letter, he sets off to search for other survivors and "fight off the demons and ghosts that haunt this forsaken and crumbling world while piecing together the mystery of mankind's disappearance," according to Rising Star. You can see the TGS trailer for Fragile below--keep it tuned to GameSpot for more information on the game as the US and EU releases approach.
