lascia stare, per needle tutto quello che è classico è spazzatura, a prescindere
piuttosto, non ho capito su che timeline si pone questa serie
è Universal Century o la timeline dello 00?

Grazie a dio no.
E' ambientato nello 0096, tre anni dopo Char's Counterattack e 27 anni prima F91.

EDIT
Grande animazioni e il chara design pare proprio un omaggio a quello della serie originale
La storia a quanto ho letto riprenderà fedelmente quella narrata negli omonimi romanzi e sarà ulteriormente arricchita grazie all'apporto dello sceneggiatore Yasuyuki Muto ( Le Chevalier D’Eon, Afro Samurai: Resurrection, Persona -trinity soul-).

As I mentioned earlier, there is this political theorist, Hannah Arendt, whom I admire deeply. She wrote about the possibilities of totalitarianism. What I'd like to do, if I ever have an opportunity to create another Gundam-like series, is to use this theme. The possibilities of totalitarianism and the dangers of it. I would embed it into this work and tell the story of totalitarianism and its dangers using robots or cute anime.
"using robots or cute anime"
----------
Therefore, I believe that the foundation behind Gundam is completely different from the other works that you mentioned. So I would like to really shout at you, don't dare to compare them.
I would again like to stress that you must not compare Gundam to anything else. It is not simply a robot story. It is not simply an anime. It is much deeper and much more valuable than that. Despite the modest tone I've taken until now, it is pretty awesome.
Anime ja nai
Vabbè che Evangelion non l'ha neppure visto, non so per Macross...

Bandai Visual's first Blu-ray Disc volume for the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime series will have a simultaneous overseas release on March 12 with Japanese and English dubbing, as well as Japanese, English, French, Spanish, and Chinese subtitles. The first of six DVD volumes will ship on the same day with Japanese dubbing as well as Japanese and English subtitles.
The first anime episode, "Unicorn no Hi" (The Day of the Unicorn), will start a two-week "premiere review" run in theaters in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo on February 20. The theaters will also offer advance sales of the Blu-ray Disc release. More details about the "premiere review" will be announced on January 20. Also on February 20, Sony Computer Entertainment will begin distributing the anime on its online PlayStation Store for its PlayStation 3 and PSP consoles.
Harutoshi Fukui's 10 Gundam Unicorn novels are set in the same Universal Century (UC) timeline as Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise's first Mobile Suit Gundam science-fiction television anime series and its sequels. Fukui finished serializing the novel version in the August issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shonen Ace magazine in June. Novelist Harutoshi Fukui had already confirmed in an interview on Wednesday that the first anime episode will incorporate material from the first two novel volumes.
The story is originally set in the year 0096 of the Universal Calendar timeline, or three years after the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack film which marked the final joint story of Gundam's original two main characters, Amuro Ray and Char Aznable.
vai vai vai! (ovviamente i subbi italiani manco a pensarci )
