■ Gain XP, level up, and acquire various skills!

The protagonists will gain experience as they battle and defeat enemies, and parameters such as their offensive and defensive power will increase. Additionally, you’ll acquire “Skill Points” when you level up, which can be used to learn a variety of skills.

DQH2_03-09-16_001.jpg

There are a number of formidable foes, such as the Red Balzack (Onikonbou). Use all your power to defeat them!

DQH2_03-09-16_002.jpg

Gain XP and level up! In addition to increasing your parameters, you’ll also acquire Skill Points.

DQH2_03-09-16_003.jpg

You can set the magic and skills you earn in the Skill Menu. These consist not only of powerful attacks, but also recovery and support skills.

DQH2_03-09-16_004.jpg

Attack enemies with the Zap magic attack! By mastering skills, you can go into battle against formidable enemies better prepared.

■ Build up tension!

By attacking the enemy, or receiving attacks from the enemy, your Tension will build up. The Tension gauge is represented on the left side of the character’s portrait. When it’s full, you can enter High Tension mode to power up your character and unleash a special attack.

DQH2_03-09-16_005.jpg

When you enter High Tension, your body will glow in a pink aura.

DQH2_03-09-16_006.jpg

Razel’s special attack, “Giga Break,” basks his sword in the power of thunder and wipes out surrounding enemies.

DQH2_03-09-16_007.jpg

Teresia’s special attack, “Giga Slash,” fires lightning from her sword and clean sweeps surrounding enemies.

■ Use weapons to increase your Proficiency and awaken new powers!

By damaging the enemy, the “Proficiency” of your equipped weapon class will increase. When Proficiency increases, different from the Skill Points you acquire, you can learn the magic, skills, and special effects available when a weapon of that class is equipped.

DQH2_03-09-16_008.jpg

In the castle town of Zebion, you’ll find an instructor who can check your Proficiency. If your weapon’s Proficiency is high enough, you can learn new magic, skills, and effects.

DQH2_03-09-16_009.jpg

Here we see Razel has learned the dual swords weapon skill “Freeze Blade.” In the same way as magic and skills learned through Skill Points, Freeze Blade can be set for use during battle in the Skill Menu.

■ Change classes to create your own hero!

The protagonists, different from the other heroes, have a special ability. They can both change their class and the types of weapons they use. Each class has attribute values and learnable skills, as well as different weapons that can be equipped and significant differences in how they fight. You can be a powerful, sword-wielding Warrior; or you can be a Priest who heals their allies; create your own kind of hero.

DQH2_03-09-16_010.jpg

Razel and Teresia start with the “Warrior” class and can be equipped with dual swords, single-handed swords, and hatchets.

DQH2_03-09-16_011.jpg

The class change office can be found in the castle town of Zebion. Since the level and Skill Points for each class is separate, you’ll need to raise XP again for each new class.

DQH2_03-09-16_012.jpg

The Priest class can be equipped with sticks, spears, and staffs.

■ Assemble with friends in multiplayer!

Dragon Quest Heroes II crosses the platform boundary when it comes to multiplayer. PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita users can all play online together. Additionally, because the game supports cross-save, you share save data across all three platforms. Play PlayStation 4 multiplayer on the big screen at home, and then take it on the go with PS Vita.

Players can take on story battles with a friend via “Cooperative Play,” as well as challenge formidable enemies in the “Space-Time Labyrinth” dungeon with up to four people.

DQH2_03-09-16_013.jpg

You can start your adventure in the Space-Time Labyrinth by talking to Rikka at the Rikka’s Inn multiplayer reception desk.

DQH2_03-09-16_014.jpg

Gather your friends nearby and online to take on the labyrinth. What kind of formidable enemies await in its depths?

DQH2_03-09-16_015.jpg

Not only will formidable enemies appear, but so will a number of metal slimes.

If It’s for Legendary Weapons, He’ll Go as Far as Another World!

Torneko wanders the world seeking legendary weapons. Even in this game, he wanders into another world in the middle of a weapon hunting journey. You would expect that he joins the protagonists in order to find a way back to his original world, but with his arrival in Zebion, he also works hard in search of rare goods. While he is worried about the family he left behind back home, he is excited about the adventure that awaits him in a different world, as he through and through loves adventure.

DQH2_04-13-16_001.jpg

Although troubled and in an unknown world, Torneko is still excited by the anticipation of adventure.

Adventure always comes with accidents. Torneko has become accustomed to being thrown in jail.

Torneko Carries Handy Tools in His Bag

Torneko fights using the handy tools he’s collected, showing his true worth as a weapons dealer. By making use of the tools at his disposal, Torneko is an all-purpose fighter able to easily handle melee attacks, long distance attacks, and recovery.

DQH2_04-13-16_003.jpg

Torneko’s “Iron Ball of Destruction” throws down a huge iron ball ahead of him.

DQH2_04-13-16_004.jpg

With his “Recovery Stone,” Torneko can greatly recover all of his allies’ HP.

DQH2_04-13-16_005.jpg

Using his “Crossbow,” Torneko can fire consecutive arrows at air-based enemies.

DQH2_04-13-16_006.jpg

Torneko’s special move is “Arakure Yobi,” which sees soldiers appear out of nowhere to take revenge on the enemy.

■ Maribel (voiced by Aoi Yuki) from Dragon Quest VII

DQH2_04-13-16_007a.jpg

The daughter of a fisherman mayor born in a fishing village. Perhaps because she was spoiled, she is highhandedly outspoken and says all that she has to say. But even so, she is a girl with a kind heart at her core. Her strong curiosity throws her head first into another world’s war.

She Has a Bad Mouth, But is a Reliable Young Woman

Maribel gets wrapped up in the war between Gywall and Orenka. She is put in a difficult situation when a large crowd of monsters attacks for reasons she doesn’t understand, but is not the least bit intimidated and does not hesitate as she deduces that she is being attacked as a result of her charm. While she expresses her dissatisfaction, her “doing something when the time calls for it” attitude is in good health even in a different world. Accompanied by Gabo, she joins a great war.

DQH2_04-13-16_007.jpg

While she’ll express her disinterest, she throws herself into a war together with the protagonists that saved her from a situation.

DQH2_04-13-16_008.jpg

Her highhanded attitude persists even in a different world. She’s also fully confident that she can win the war even if it were just herself.

Maribel Has a Number of Unique Special Skills

Maribel specializes in boomerang attacks and spells to attack from a long distance, but also has special skills that allow her to fight in close range. This highhanded young lady makes full use of her insults and slaps in battle.

DQH2_04-13-16_009.jpg

Maribel’s “Retaliate” attack slaps the enemy with a giant hand.

DQH2_04-13-16_010.jpg

Her “Shout Aloud” attack shocks the enemy with verbal abuse.

DQH2_04-13-16_011.jpg

Using her “Cross Cutter” attack, Maribel attacks with a backwards turn that lets her take distance from the enemy.

DQH2_04-13-16_012.jpg

Maribel’s special move, “Flames of Purgatory,” sees pillars of fire erupt from which she gathers flames to blow away the enemy.

■ Gabo (voiced by Mutsumi Tamura) from Dragon Quest VII

DQH2_04-13-16_012a.jpg

A young boy with athletic ability that surpasses that of an ordinary person. He inherited the power of the “Legendary White Wolf” that saved a certain town and always travels with his wolf. He has a very sharp intuition, and can sense surrounding disasters and nearby enemies, as well as where to find tasty food.

A Wild Child Who Takes to the Battlefield by Instinct

Gabo wanders into a different world with Maribel. Whether it’s due to his wolf blood that excites him on the battlefield, he joins in on the war with an assertive war cry. His sharp senses allow him to instinctively perceive friends and foes on the battlefield, and plays a big part in helping him sniff out food. However, he fights at his own pace and amazes even Maribel as his appetite takes precedence even on the battlefield.

DQH2_04-13-16_013.jpg

Gabo worries about what’s in his stomach even on the battlefield. Maribel harshly tells him not to get worked up about it.

DQH2_04-13-16_014.jpg

Gabo’s smells someone approaching with his sharp sense of smell. This proves reliable on a battlefield filled with enemies and allies.

Gabo Fights Together With a Wolf

Gabo can unleash powerful special skills in combination with his wolf partner. Gabo himself has astounding physical ability, and his sharp claw attacks and fire breathing make up his distinctive traits.

DQH2_04-13-16_015.jpg

Gabo’s “Roar” attack sees him and his wolf roar at and stun surrounding enemies.

DQH2_04-13-16_016.jpg

With “Fenrir Attack,” Gabo’s wolf springs down at the enemy with a series of consecutive sharp claw attacks.

DQH2_04-13-16_017.jpg

“Fire Breath” sees Gabo spit fire from his mouth, burning the enemies ahead of him.

DQH2_04-13-16_018.jpg

Gabo’s special move, “Sheep Stampede,” sees him call forth a pack of wolves with a whistle… or actually, no, it calls forth a horde of sheep.

■ Party Skills and Party Combos

In Dragon Quest Heroes II there are new ways to strengthen your party via “Party Skills” and “Party Combos.” Since Party Skills can be learned by increasing the proficiency of specific weapon types, it will increase party’s overall attribute values and prove effective in battle. The effect extends to the entire party if someone learns a Party Skill, so you should try and have all members of your party learn some.

DQH2_04-13-16_019.jpg

You’ll learn Party Skills via an instructor in the castle town of Zebion.

DQH2_04-13-16_020.jpg

“Bushin no Gouwan” is learned. The attribute value of the entire party is raised.

Party Combos can be unleashed during battle, and see members of your party replace the character your controlling to let out a series of consecutive special skills, one after the other. This comes in handy when you want to continue attacking the enemy with characters that are at a distance, who will appear before them immediately.

DQH2_04-13-16_021.jpg

By continuing Tereshia’s attack with a Party Combo…

DQH2_04-13-16_022.jpg

…Gabo will immediately take her place and continue the attack.

■ Various Missions in the Field

DQH2_04-13-16_023.jpg

While exploring the field, you may encounter hordes of monsters and more difficult enemies attacking travelers. These kinds of events are called “Field Missions” and settling them will give players bonus experience points.

■ Various Fields

While we’ve already seen fields of meadows and deserts, there are truly different aspects about every region of this world. And with a change in environment comes a change in the types of monsters that inhabit it.

Rosa Woodland – The Dark Smoky Forest

DQH_04-30-16_001.jpg

A thick forest covers the area around Kretia. The sun doesn’t shine in the backwoods, and poisonous mushrooms are spread throughout. Rarely, there are also things that become gigantic. Some of monsters that roam these woods take camouflage in the trees and shrubs.

Rao Wasteland – The Naked Land

DQH_04-30-16_002.jpg

A harsh wasteland not suitable for human civilization, and is connected to the northern three countries of Monstrea. Its grounds are covered in lava and poisonous swamps, and giant crystals also stick out. Tough monsters adapted to the harsh environment roam these lands.

Amal Canyon – The Steep Mountain

A steep mountain overlooking the clouds, as well as the border that separates Felnock and Kretia. Rocks rain down on the mountain’s narrow scaffolds, and it is said that there have been those who’ve lost their footing. Because of its high altitude, monsters that dwell in the sky often appear here.

■ Zebion Facilities

In the castle town of the suzerain state Zebion, which is the base of the heroes’ adventures, there are a number of facilities that will support players on their adventure. These include the “Church,” the “Orb Shop” to buy armor, the “Alchemy Pot” to enhance accessories, “Rikka’s Inn,” “Luida’s Bar,” as well as facilities like the “Quest Office,” “Weapon Shop,” and “Clearing House.” Additionally, there is a place where you can change your appearance, as well as a Medal King to exchange your “Small Medals.”

Appraise Unknown Weapons in the Weapon Shop

At the Weapon Shop, you can of course buy and sell weapons, but you can also “appraise” unknown weapons. By bringing in what you come across on your adventure, you can check what sort of weapon you’re dealing with. After an appraisal, unlike the weapons you buy at the shop, there is a number next to the name (+3 ,for example), it has a higher ability level, and it’s given a special ability that will aid in battle. In the event that you don’t receive a good appraisal on your weapon, you can “dismantle” it and return it to “pieces,” as well as “re-assemble” those pieces into a weapon.

Barter for and Obtain Materials in the Clearing House

Not only can you get accessories to enhance at the Alchemy Pot or materials necessary for Quests by defeating monsters or finding them on the field, you can also barter with the people of the city at the Clearing House. By exchanging a lot of one material, you’ll have the chance to get less of another material.

Fight More Fashionably by Changing Your Appearance

By talking to Float-o-copier in Zebion, you can change the protagonists’ costumes and the look of your allies’ weapons. The changes are solely appearance based, so since it has no affect on ability and performance, any of the changes you make won’t provide a disadvantage in battle.
