PlayTM Xbox 360 Preview
"As Amancio tells us, the game world was built before the missions were conceived (using an in-house engine described as "amazing"), and thus we're presented with a realistic slice of central Africa. High-ground offers jungles and eventually forests, lower ground is dryer, with parched grasses and bare foliage interspersed with settlements, placed realistically near rivers and streams that lead to sources in the hills."
Eurogamer - Far Cry 2 to have 16 players online
"Far Cry 2 will have a 16-player online mode with persistent rewards and experience levels like Call of Duty 4."
"Game designer Patrick Redding spilled the beans to Eurogamer at the UbiDays event in Paris, explaining you'll be able to pick a class to fit your playing style."
(NoSpamPlease) Reinventing the shooter genre... again
"The original Far Cry was hugely successful for two huge reasons - presentation and freedom."
"When the shooter first released on PC in 2004, the lush and unrestricted jungle setting was a revelation. Gamers accustomed to dark hallways and crate-filled rooms suddenly found themselves standing in bright sunlight, surrounded by swaying trees, sparkling water and open expanses of mostly nonlinear terrain. You could stick to the path; you could leave the path. You could travel in a jeep; you could travel in a boat. And no matter what choices you made, the journey looked fantastic."

"Background: By now you've likely heard that Far Cry 2 takes place in Africa. After a slew of recent games featuring jungles as their main setting, Ubisoft Montreal felt that jungles were very much a case of "been there, done that." So the developer set out to try Africa, and to really take advantage of all the setting would allow for. Vast deserts and savannahs create a much different vibe for this sequel, one that feels rather unique and new for the FPS genre."
GameSpy Far Cry 2 Hands-on
"Compared to the weird sci-fi hijinks of its predecessor (as well as the unabashed sci-fi flight of its spiritual successor Crysis), Far Cry 2's premise is decidedly grounded in the here and now. Involving a fractured African nation, a Malaria-afflicted protagonist, and an opportunistic arms dealer who supplies both sides of a protracted, unproductive conflict, you could even say it's prescient. But the mind of a gamer can easily extrapolate from these elements a whole mess of concepts with which we perhaps feel more at home: a free-roaming environment, complete with realistically-rendered foliage; disparate factions to alienate and curry favor with; and of course, munitions and firearms in no short supply."

"Ever since GTA 3, open world games have been the new hotness. But, it seems like 3rd person games have had a bit of a stranglehold on the genre, with titles like Crackdown, Saints Row and, obviously, GTA, stealing the spotlight. Far Cry 2 will attempt to bring the open-world concept to FPSers, recreating Africa from a mercenaries point of view. We got to spend some time in this new and bloody continent, and now we're definitely considering getting a full time VISA."
IGN Far Cry 2 Preview
"Open worlds aren't exactly new in gaming nowadays. Just look at Grand Theft Auto. There's something liberating about an open world, as you're able to go where you want when you want; you don't feel like you're being funneled along a very narrow path. With Far Cry 2, Ubisoft and its Ubisoft Montreal team want to deliver what is quite possibly the most convincing and realistic open world yet, but instead of trying to build urban jungles they're building actual jungles, as well as Serengeti plains, forests, and more. We finally got our hands on Far Cry 2 this month to explore its African setting for the first time, and it's an impressive game in terms of technology and gameplay."

"Is it ever. Lead artist Alex Amancio is taking us off the beaten path near the end of my look at Far Cry 2. I see thatched roof huts, brightly colored graffiti sprayed across the walls. Sun-soaked stones line the clear river behind me, a jagged cliff to my front. Far below is a yellow grassland that stretches on for miles. A few convincing water buffalo stand grazing off in the distance, a shot right out of No Country."
Gamespot Far Cry 2 - Hands-On
"A mixture of cutting-edge graphics, open-ended gameplay, and sophisticated artificial intelligence made the original Far Cry a hit on the PC. For Far Cry 2, the development team at Ubisoft Montreal is still keeping those essential ingredients--gorgeous, lush environments, tricky AI, and a sandbox mentality--intact while changing up all the surrounding elements, such as the setting, storyline, and characters, to keep things fresh. As a result, when we first got our hands on the game at Ubisoft's recent spring press event, we felt like it was running into an old friend who had recently spent a load of cash on a wardrobe upgrade."

CVG Far Cry 2 Interview
"With the original Far Cry developers departed and Far Cry 2's development in new hands, you'd have been forgiven for expecting the sequel to be nothing more than a prettier version of its predecessor - playable and enjoyable but hardly special.
Imagine our shock then, when Far Cry 2 was revealed to not only be one of the most graphically impressive games we've seen on PC, but also a title attempting to push current boundaries of AI, characters and player freedom."

Kotaku - It’s like Grand Theft Auto IV on the Serengeti, but not really.
"At first blush Far Cry 2 looks and behaves a bit like Grand Theft Auto IV: The game has an open world, friends who can come to your rescue, a phone you use to contact them, safe houses, a detailed map for guidance and a non-linear story line.
But where at its heart Grand Theft Auto IV is an action game, Far Cry 2 has its roots deeply embedded in the bedrock of shooters and from what I saw during my short time with the game it seems to remain true to those origins."
