3D is a fad that many film fans have a love-hate relationship with. More often than not, it's a means for studios to ramp up the ticket prices, but every so often, there's a film that truly takes advantage of the 3D. James Cameron's 2009 masterpiece AVATAR was one such film, and a good number of animated films have also taken great advantage of the tool. When it comes to Marvel, and superhero films in general, however, 3D doesn't generally seem to add a whole lot. I personally usually check out a superhero flick twice -- once in 2D, once in 3D. I don't generally care for 3D, but part of me goes for fear of missing out on a unique 3D experience. But so far, I haven't been impressed. DOCTOR STRANGE looks to be one of Marvel's most unique films today. While their movies have either been grounded in our world, or off in space, DOCTOR STRANGE looks to take things to a supernatural and psychedelic level. With that in mind, perhaps 3D will add something more to it. In an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige talked about DOCTOR STRANGE and its use of 3D. "Yes, as a matter of fact. We were in VFX reviews the other day, one of the first ones for that movie — we just wrapped, we finished in New York…we did one of the first reviews and it was pretty exciting. It was pretty cool in terms of how 3D can serve that story. You know, sometimes 3D is a tool, like it is in CIVIL WAR, a tool of –another toy in the sandbox of how the Russos (Joe and Anthony) can present this movie, then there are times like what Disney is putting out with The JUNGLE BOOK -– it’s certainly gonna be the case with DOCTOR STRANGE -– that it serves the storytelling, that it advances the storytelling. And hopefully it helps bend people’s minds even more than with just the flat screen."
